Akio Nagasawa Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of “VLC Gallery by AKIO NAGASAWA” in cooperation with VLC Holdings Co. Ltd.
The gallery is located in the lobby of the VLC Holdings building at Toranomon.
Utilizing an existing, minimally refurbished space inside a corporate building’s lobby, and exploiting the effects of the architecture’s modern design, the gallery will provide a stage for exhibitions that would not be possible in the “white cube” settings of conventional art galleries.
Art is something that, quite obviously, does not only exist on the walls of museums and galleries. We hope that a visit to this gallery will be an opportunity for rediscovering that it is only within the contexts of contemporary living environments, that art can fully display its intrinsic and essential meanings.
To commemorate the gallery’s opening, an exhibition of works by Keiichi Tahara will be shown over the period of approximately one year, divided into four parts. The first part will be dedicated to the “Window” series that initially introduced Tahara to a broad audience.
In the future, a variety of exhibitions at this gallery will be conceived while taking into account the characteristics of a corporate building’s lobby, and I look forward to your guidance and support.
